Canada faces a shortage of skilled labor as its economy continues to expand and an increasing number of Canadians retire.

Who can submit a request under the PFTQ?
The Canadian government has announced its goal of issuing permanent resident (PR) visas to Canada to 232,000 “economic immigrants” in 2021 through various Canadian immigration programs, such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FQWP). .
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FQWP) is a points-based Canadian immigration program designed to provide a permanent resident (PR) visa to Canada to thousands of skilled foreign workers (and their eligible family members) which meet certain criteria.
Points are awarded for factors considered important to the success of skilled foreign workers immigrating to Canada, such as:
- Fluency in English and French (28 possible points)
- Education (25 possible points)
- Professional experience (15 points possible)
- Age (12 possible points)
- An eligible Canadian job offer (10 points possible)
- Adaptability (10 possible points)
A minimum of 67 points out of a maximum of 100 points is necessary to be eligible for the PFTQ, in addition to meeting the other eligibility criteria.
Applicants must also have their English and/or French language skills assessed by taking the IELTS and/or TEF exams and obtain an acceptable score; receive a favorable evaluation of educational qualifications (ECA) from one of the agencies authorized by the Canadian government; and meet standards of health and morality and other criteria.
Please note that if you wish to live and work in Quebec, you cannot apply for immigration to Canada under the PFTQ and must instead submit an application for Canadian immigration under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program ( PTQQ).
One of the main eligibility conditions for the Federal Qualified Worker Program (PFTQ) is to have acquired over the last ten years at least one year of continuous and paid full-time professional experience in an eligible profession listed by the National Classification of Occupations (CNP) as in the training, studies, experience and responsibilities (FEER) categories necessary to practice a profession:
FEER 0 – Management positions
FEER 1 – Professions generally requiring a university degree
FEER 2 – Professions generally requiring:
- a college diploma,
- an apprenticeship of 2 years or more, or
- supervisory tasks.
FEER 3 – Professions generally requiring:
- a college diploma,
- an apprenticeship of less than 2 years, or
- on-the-job training of more than 6 months.
There are dozens of management professions, liberal professions and other high-demand professions that are eligible for the PFTQ.
